New blog post link in bio! This week I open up about societal standards of beauty and how I personally feel about them. Like anyone who uses social media, I’ve experienced my fair share of feeling out of place and not truly loving who I am because of the portrayal of others lives in captured moments. It’s the split seconds where I’m scrolling through my feed that I feel terrible, questioning why I don’t look or act a certain way. When I went to take my senior pictures this past week, I dressed pretty casually as that was what I was comfortable in. However, there were other people there who were more engaged, invested, and dressed up compared to me. Again, I felt this internal conflict, questioning why I didn’t go full out. After all, isn’t this a “once in a lifetime experience”? I think that’s where I begin to draw the line with the ideas of beauty because after years of feeling down and in a hole, attempting to fit in, I realized I experienced the most joy when I let go of the weights of perfection on my shoulders. I owe it to my mom, who is unapologetic in everything she doe, to steer me the right direction, showing me what’s most important. Beauty is so much more than one’s appearance as it is how one views themselves, shedding love and admiration on the accomplishments you’ve achieved and the mountains you’ve climbed. We’re all so different, therefore, why should we be striving to be the same? One quote that I believe shifted my perspective in viewing myself is this: “Beauty is held in the eye of the beholder”. The accounts of viewing yourself with worth begins with yourself not anyone else. To those of you out there who are not feeling the best, know that those around you love you, and there is no need to change a facade to change your heart. I know for sure that you’re absolutely ravishing, gorgeous, and one of a kind.
